Understanding Depression
Depression affects how you think, feel, and function—and it’s more common than many people realize. According to the CDC, nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults report experiencing symptoms of depression. In Massachusetts, an estimated 18.2% of adults have been diagnosed with depression at some point in their lives.
It’s not about weakness. It’s not something you can just “snap out of.” Depression is a real mental health condition—and support is available.
Types of Depression We Treat
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Marked by persistent sadness, low energy, difficulty concentrating, and a loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy.
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
A lower-grade, chronic form of depression that lasts for two years or more. You may feel “functional” but emotionally flat, unmotivated, or chronically tired.
Bipolar Disorder
Involves shifts between depressive lows and manic or hypomanic highs. During depressive episodes, you may feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected, or immobilized.
Situational or Adjustment-Related Depression
Sometimes life events—like grief, divorce, or job loss—can trigger depressive symptoms. Support can make a significant difference in how you recover and adapt.

- Fatigue or sleeping too much
