Understanding Trauma & PTSD
Trauma is your body and mind’s response to overwhelming events.
This can include violence, accidents, medical emergencies, abuse, neglect, or unexpected loss. Trauma responses are deeply human—and you’re not alone.
About 6% of U.S. adults will experience Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in their lifetime. Many more live with symptoms related to unresolved trauma or Acute Stress Disorder.

Conditions We Treat
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD may occur after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. It can lead to intrusive memories, emotional numbing, hypervigilance, or avoidance of reminders.
Acute Stress Disorder (ASD)
Similar to PTSD, but symptoms begin within three days of trauma and last up to one month. Early support can reduce long-term impact.
Complex Trauma
Ongoing or repeated trauma—such as childhood abuse or prolonged neglect—can lead to emotional dysregulation, self-esteem issues, and relationship difficulties.
Secondary or Vicarious Trauma
Common among caregivers, therapists, and medical professionals, this type of trauma can develop from repeated exposure to others’ suffering. Over time, it may lead to:
- Emotional exhaustion or burnout
- Feeling numb or detached
- Irritability or low mood
- Trouble sleeping or concentrating
- Reduced sense of meaning in your work
Signs You May Be Experiencing Trauma Symptoms:
